Yesterday I received probably the only fresh re-chromed bumper available for my J truck.

It is beautiful! Today I happened on the NOS round head bolts to mount the bumper. They are on the way...

I wish I could report that the blocking and priming is going as well as finding the final parts, but, alas, I am still learning. I feel I am making progress, but baby steps.

Turkey season starts this Saturday so the weekend is shot! LOL

I found Nos oem bolts to mount it yesterday, they are on the way.

Now if I could just figure out this blocking thing...

I am making headway, I think, on the blocking, but...

WHSII, while blocking out a Bronco hood today, I thought of this post. The Bronco also has spot welds
showing through the outer hood skin (where the inner bracing is attached), that are apparent when sighting
down the side. Just part of the character of these old trucks....

I have a soft sanding sponge that I use to 'block' out panels that are already straight. I just wrap a section
of sandpaper around it and it contours itself to the curves of the panel. If the hard rubber blocks are not
doing the job right, you might try something that's softer....

Super work so far !!! :goodjob:

Thanks Night Train,

I have been playing with a softer block around the spot welds after blocking the area, it seems to let them show.

I will keep practicing.

Been working hard on priming, filling and blocking.

The door hinges will just get a scrubbing, the rear fenders still need a light blocking, the door panels which I shot the second coat of primer on today, need a light blocking and possibly a finish sanding... Let me know what you think. ( I know that pictures do not show the real surface)

Blocked, re primed.

Sanded with 400 and scuffed the odd areas and spot welds.

Started on the bed and got 2/3rds of it done, then the weather turned bad...

Then Arther took over (you know Arther, Arthritis) and then my back went out... Getting old is a challenge!

Been trying to accomplish something everyday, been working on cleaning bolts.

One question, once primed, do you use a red scotch bright pad and scuff the bolts before finish?

Most of your projects do not have exposed bolts, but how would you address them if you had them to paint before installation? Any tips on installing them once painted?

Thanks for your help!

personally i would leave the bolts exposed once painted, i don't know of any tool that will let you install them without the paint chipping them. otherwise, if the head is easy to get too. I prep em with fine wire wheel. clean em with wax and grease remover, and spray dtm epoxy or etching primer on them and then will mask the area surrounding the bolts and spray em. but its not easy specially in certain areas. If you want to jazz up any bolt check out http://www.caswellplating.com/ so much fun stuff there to keep you busy for hours. And can do just about anything in small batches how ever you want. Not expensive either imo. :goodjob:

I would use gray but lightly with red will do.

I've replaced the exposed bolts on my Bronco project with stainless steel. No they're not factory
correct, but they sure do look good. :D
BoltDepot is a good supplier for SS bolts and screws.

Great work on the Jeep! :goodjob:
