you have a point. I just wanted it to corner better. it would save me a lot of money if I stayed with the stock stuff. what kind of 12 bolt should I put in the rear. maybe I should spend my money on that.

what do you think about polyurethane bushings. also I want my stance to look nice maybe a drop and some 10 inch wide rims in the rear.

I am really excited about this project. I have been grabbing my sata's and wishing for warm weather.

Polly bushings are cool that make it stiffer for sure with stiff comes ruff ride remember that some squeak, some don't fit well, and if its just to drive and enjoy Stock is a lot cheaper. personally I liked how that car drove originally but I never tried to drive it hard into corners either just drag stuff a friend of mine had one that was all original with the HO 455 it was a very fast car.
Also Helwig as an example and a few others that make awesome spring and sway bar combos for these cars back in the day and today as well which make them handle better than stock for spirited driving I'm not saying you cant have your cake and eat it too don't get me wrong their are affordable well engineered options just remember its always gonna be just a car not a race car.
Their is a big difference between the two all in what you really want to do? my opinion sucks in my opinion to tell you the truth.

Doright, there is a ton of well thought out logic in your last 2 post on this issue and I for one don't think your opinion "sucks".
My Dad used to get so frustrated with me when I wanted to modify one of my cars with aftermarket parts. He would tell me "Now think this out Son, the factory spends millions of dollars engineering and designing these cars and you think you will improve what they made with this stuff from a mail order outfit?" Not to say there aren't improvements that can be made but there are usually some minuses that come along with the pluses you gain.

I agree with Doright on suspension mods, I don't like them unless the car is being built for racing.
Keep in mind, those cars came with bias ply tires, so the suspensions were engineered for them. Bias ply tires have much stiffer sidewalls than radials. Because of this, there tends to be more body roll when radials are installed on older cars.
Stiffer anti-sway bars and heavier duty shocks, usually compensate for the difference, without modifying the design of the suspension, or making the ride harsher.

ok I am not gonna do the suspension like I had first planned and it will save me some serious cash that needs to be spent on the rear end of this car. when I had it towed to my new garage the rear end locked up and I want to upgrade that to a 12 bolt or maybe a 9 inch

I can agree with either upgrade their but be prepared a 12 bolt posi rear all set up to just bolt in gonna start at 2500 and a 9 inch not that far away either 3500 or so depending how you have it set up.

My last big 455 I had was a 74TA 60 over radically ported 6x heads big cam yadda yadda 4speed tranny (Super T 10) 10 Bolt rear 373 gears EXTREMELY FUN car to drive I never ever harmed that 10 bolt rear end I never even broke an Axle of course some one could have installed hardened axles in the cars life at some time but I never did.

Oh I know I drove it like my Granny or my Grand pappy that's why it didn't break :rotfl:

Do you know how many times I dumped the Clutch at 3500-4000 rpm? I don't think God himself could tell me.
Tire stores LOVED ME!

I'm using original 10 Bolts for all my Fire birds good rebuild-able carriers readily available housings are cheap and Hardened axles are a lot cheaper than carriers and setting up a 12 bolt or a 9 inch...... save my money for engine machine work paint interior etc.... Now if I lived at the Drag strip every weekend doing Axle bending drive shaft bending 3000+ rpm launches with sticky tires every weekend Ya I wouldn't even think twice and I would do the 12 bolt or 9 inch but for a daily driver hot rod for just for bragging rights while bench racing? why? 10 bolts been doing the job fer years reliably being abused by the best.

The speed limit is still just 75 mph wear ya ganna go? how fast is fast enough? and what are you trying to prove? and to who?
Me? I have nothing to prove to anyone! I just wanna build some fun fast good looking toys and be happy maybe make a buck or two along the way but go broke building a car? no, my house still needs a lot of landscaping and repairs now & my kids have wants and needs My OlLady has plans for ALL my money and I have been eying the new Corvettes and Cameros for a while now and I want a new daily driver my 06 VW has 180k miles under its belts now its time for a new ride I think and an old hot rod no matter what you do to it is still not ever going to be as reliable as a new car.
like I said before my opinion sucks but I have a very clear idea of what I think a toy is and what I really need or want.
