So I bought a couple of 1970's Yamaha AG 175 bikes really cheap with a vision to turn them from scrap back into something fun!
Basically the AG is the Aus/NZ agricultural/farm bike - it is based around the Yamaha CT3 (reed valve induction) 175 Enduro.
How I got them (this is the one I decided to use)
40 years of dirt, grease and farmer jury rigging made for a big job!
Frame cleaned up and gloss blacked
new colour choice - painting with acrylic laquer
Big dings in the tank, about 10-15 in total, plus some signfiicant rust pitting where the seat wore away the paint
Tank getting primer after being filled with 2k filler
Trial fit - only the headlight housing brackets have been clear coated.
Another shot
PLAN:
- apply yamaha vinyls to tank
- apply clear coat to everything
- cut and buff with megs 105 205
- slap the bass
- paint cylinder + head with gloss black high temp paint > polish fin ends

wet sanded > cut and buffed with megs 105 205, and then vinyls applied came up pretty good! |

yeah I was thinking of just puttin small white one on the back of the seat and leaving the tank blank.
I havent cleared the tank over the decals so I can remove anytime, as I am indecisive! thanks for the feedback |
I don't agree with the removal of the decals. I think the YAMAHA looks good and it shows attention to detail. I'm an avid supersport rider/racer and I think it really sets things off to have something that's not stock, look OEM. I always paint my race plastics with something eye-catching but put the logos back on so people notice it, but they don't.
That's just me, but I really think the decal looks right. Nice job either way! |
