Been working on this car at my new job. Can't take credit for any of the painting, but I did do most of the final blocking and prep. Helped layout and tape the stripes too (carpentry skills paying off already... :) ) The pics show 2 coats of clear. Monday will be wetsand with 800 and then 2 more coats of clear followed by cut n buff.

Took all day to sand and remask the 66 for two flow coats of clear tomorrow. This is gonna be one killer stang!

Wow that looks great! Just curious but what are flow coats? Im trying to catch up on all of the auto body terminology...also were the doors painted on the car or off?

Sorry for the late response. Flow coats are done to minimize orange peel in the paint for a smoother finish, less sanding and buffing

Door and door jambs were painted when the car was painted

Is the flow coat a reduced clear? Ive read that somewhere. Did you ever get it fully cut n buffed? I'd love to see some finish pics.

Notice that they cleared the car, then block sanded it flat before applying the "flow coat." This is all part of the process as blocking the clear removes any urethane wave and orange peel so the following coats will flow out and lay down better.
Generally the last two coats use a slower activator and are laid on wet. Some will add a little reducer which makes it a tad bit thinner. Some even add 3-5% retarder to the last coat which increases the flash time even more.
