Just wanted to throw some of my projects out there. My old Miata I had, before and after.

Then a trash can, because I wanted more practice and I had leftover paint. (FYI, you do not need a gallon of paint for a Miata...)

Then a smoker I painted as my first paid painting gig. Used Eastwood high temp paint for it. Turned out good I thought.

How much paint did you end up using on the Miata? Mine is in need of some serious help, and it may end up being my first paint project.

About half a gallon, and that is only because I wasted a bit from either dropping my mix cup (being nervous as it was my first time) or just not having proper painting technique.

The amount also depends on the kind of paint. Metallic colors will go on thin (in my experience now...) so you would need a bit more for good coverage...solid colors will go on and cover better, so you would need less.

Wouldn't hurt to get a pint of the color you want, and do a test piece first so you can decide.

I ordered 3 quarts for the 1990 Miata in the projects section. The paint was Pro Spray Mariner Blue and mixes 1:1 so technically had 6 quarts of ready to spray (RTS) paint.

The car was given 3 coats, which is the minimum number of coats I recommend. Some colors may take more than that to achieve "true color."

I still have about 1/2 pint of unmixed paint left. Rather have more than enough than just enough of too little.

Color makes a big difference when deciding how much paint to buy.

Just did a headlight restoration on a truck last night. Sanded down, then shot clear coat on them. They'll last forever now.

Thanks man, I started a side business out of my shop at home, so I get all kinds of requests. Recently painted a tool box, and I have another smoker to paint soon.
