Just got this truck in today for a full color change. Figured I'll make a thread on it to track the progress.
Has a few dents. And a lot of peeling clear coat.
Going to be a jet black gloss finish. From door jambs to under the hood to anything that can be removed.
I plan to remove tail gate, doors, door panels, hood, grill etc.
Here is a picture of the truck and the horrible peeling clear.
Any recommendations for the affected clear areas? Sand all the way down to base would be the way to go on affected areas right?
Will also be spraying some new bedliner and spraying bedliner under the hood.

Hope you bid enough time for dismantling, stripping paint, and masking. Its a big job with these trucks and time consuming.
All the areas with failing clear coat have to be stripped to factory primer or bare metal. Once clear coat fails the base coat is no good. 1968 Coronet R/T

I said it would take a month to have it all done. I think I'll get it done in that time frame.
okay, so I'll strip the areas with bad clear down to primer then. Which is going to to be the fenders hood and roof. I'm thinking I'll spray the bedliner first and all the door jambs. That way any over spray that may gt on the body can be sanded off before base coat and clear coat. Fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

I would suggest you do the bed liner last. You will need to stand in the bed to reach the roof of the truck unless you plan to spray of a scaffold.

Ahh I didn't even think of that! I will probably do it last then. I don't know how long it will take to dry and don't want to mess it up only to respray it. Thanks for that!
