I am in a similar stage with my project and have been using the heat gun/scraper method (although I am going to look for a tool similar to yours). I have noticed that it is much easier with layers of bondo and paint than just old dry paint. Also, changing blades often seems to help.
I know you mentioned customer wanted to leave the interior alone, however when you do strip the interior on other projects, what method do you use? Very few flat areas. I was thinking of just having the interior blasted once I got the outside stripped. |
It depends really on the individual project. Blasting is the best way in my opinion, just be sure to get all the media out of the crevices and seams.
Yes, the heat gun and razor blade works best on multiple layers or where there is filler under the paint. The other areas will usually sand off pretty easily with the DA. 1968 Coronet R/T

More holes buried in filler. This on the passenger's door front of window frame.
DA sanded the right bedside. Not nearly as bad as the left side Swiss cheese: Stripping the cab: More filler sculpting: I also pulled a lot of dents on the tailgate. Used 132 uni-spotter studs before I was done. Brushed on two coats of epoxy and left it for now. Sorry no pictures of that. 1968 Coronet R/T

Man. Would've been interesting to weigh how much filler came off of there.

I can tell you I have already had to change the shop vac bag due to weight.
