Hello,
New member here (kinda) and about to take on a new project, a 1969 Camaro Z/28.

Dusk blue with white stripes, blue interior and white vinyl top, factory flat hood and rear spoiler delete. Complete born with and numbers matching drive-train. Odometer reading is 52k and change. Seats still like new. Have every born with part from the front bumper, engine, interior, to the rear bumper and 5 original wheels/rims. Even have 1 original tire, "Firestone Sportcar 200" on the rear driver side which I'll be removing within the next day.

This will be restored back to it's original assy-line state. With the help of this forum and it's members I believe I can resurrect this once "Little mouse that roared" and my dream car.

My intentions are to do everything possible except the final paint. Only cause I don't have a booth or I'd probably end up trying that as well...lol

There is a Little history on this Z without going into the full boring detail. It's was pretty much barn/garaged kept, circa 1978. Have several documentations and owner history as well as staying in contact with it's original owner in 1969. Has very little rust thru areas and mostly just light surface rust.

The floor pan, pretty much solid thru-out.... so far I do know of one little quarter size rust thru area on the driver side. I know it can and may lead to a much bigger area. But for the most part it's a good start.

Sounds like a great start -- all the born with components means that you'll spend a lot less time sourcing some of the hard to find parts. And car looks very solid, too.

Be sure to photo document everything from disassembly to final buffing. Amazing how easy it is to forget just how things went together.

Taking it to the bare bones shell is the best way to insure no rust will be missed and everything looks better than new.

If you have not already done so, I'd suggest going to CRG and Team Camaro for restoration accuracy data. There are also a few autobody and restoration professionals there among the hobbyists. There are many things you need to know in order to be accurate, just one of which is the correct component finishes and paint procedures. I have at least one Camaro in my shop at all times. Please submit any data you have to CRG: http://www.camaros.org/index.shtml Build threads are welcome on both sites.

Hey ScottB, Thanks.... I'm actually a member on both and I'm very active on "CRG". At CRG I have a thread posted where I show everything and all parts and part numbers as well. Yes, great info over there for any first generation camaro guy/gal.

Are you on CRG also ?

Which leads me to my first big question. Getting the body inside and out completely rust free.

I was planning to trailer the car up this summer to a place just a couple hours north of me here in Fla. They have a chemical dipping process (Not an acid bath) and was thinking this will be the best and safest way to start with a clean palette. The media/sand blasting will not allow me to get every nook and cranny, and I surely don't want areas to start rusting from the inside out on this particular car.

Like to hear thoughts on this method, has anyone done a chemical bath like this or similar?

Btw...68 Coronet, BEAUTIFUL ride. One of my fav's next to the "Winged Warrior" Superbird. :goodjob:
