So I'm starting with a wrecked 07 f150 that I'm converting into a raptor. I'm on a bugst with this project and trying to keep the total cost under 5k. I paid 1,400 for the truck and have about 2,000 into parts already. Here's some pics so far of the build.

Now I'm almost to the stage of primer. Would I want to spray expoxy primer? How much do you think I would need to cover the truck? This is my first time painting anything so I have a bunch of newbie questions.

"Need to spray epoxy" is probably not the right question. I for one believe that epoxy is the absolute best protection for the metal and gives a solid foundation for the paint job. It also acts as a sealer, can have filler applied over or under it, gives a consistent color to your project and remains somewhat flexible to help prevent paint stone chips.

Is it necessary? No, but neither is buying top of the line base and clear coat. If your budget is tight and you don't want to spend for the epoxy, I would highly recommend Tamco DTM primer sold on this site's Store Front.

Basically, it all comes down to you and what you want to spend on your project.

I'm interested in doing a conversion to my 2006 F150. Would you mind telling me what was involved in this? Do I need the complete front clip from a newer truck, or will any of my 2006 parts be reused? I did this years ago to an older F150 to look like a Lightning. Now, I would like to try it on my current truck. Thanks Darren

If you plan on going new parts it would be very expensive to do, but ive been taking my time watching craigslist for parts when they come along. you have to fab a bracket for the headlights, everything else fits pretty good. Take a look at my blog on the build, it will give you a better idea.
