Hey troops,

Been working on this one for a bit in the shop, it's a 1964 Belair sedan, straight six, 3 on the tree, armstrong steering, standard brakes and radio delete. I don't think there is an option on this car lol.

Floors and frame needed serious work,

Image

Both 1/4s were pretty bad on the lower parts.

Image

Got her in the shop and started right away on the floors and mounts,

Image

Image

One thing nice about these X frame cars is that you can replace/repair the inner rockers without lifting the body from the frame lol.

These cars are really badly engineered as there are no body mounts between the firewall and the ones over the rear axle!

Image

So we added 4 more mounts, just like the convertibles have,

the rear ones,

Image

Image

The front ones under the front seats,

Image

New floors installed,

Image

Then we removed the body from the frame and proceeded to replace the rear pan,

Image

Image

Image

Image

New wheel wells going in,

Image

Image

New used trunk floor,

Image

Image

Now the frame gets bolted back up for all the final welding,

Image

Rear patches welded in,

Image

Now it's all welded up and seams sealed up,

Image

Image

We painted the firewall and cowl as well,

Today we bolted the frame back up for the final time and Monday we'll take it to my new shop to start the body work.

Nice work but I can't understand why anyone would put that much money into a car like that.
They never get that back when and if they sell it.

It's a heirloom car, the grandpa bought it from his sister who bought it new. Passed it down to his grandson who is having it restored. Unfortunately the grandpa passed away a few months ago which makes this car even more valuable to the grandson, just not in a monetary way.

That explains it then. There are some things you just can't put a price tag on.

Got some more done to the 64, actually quite a lot.

The front fenders are repaired and painted, just need to wet sand polish.

Image

The doors are also repaired and block sanded out, the insides have been painted.

Image

Image

Trunk all sorted out,

Image

Started the repairs on the 1/4's,

Image

Cleaned up the front and rear window channels, the windows will be installed before it goes into the booth for paint,

Image

Image

Leading edge of the hood had some rust which was cut out and new metal welded in,

Image

Blocking it out,

Image

soon to be going into the paint booth!

Don't mind the wheel, it's only temporary until the original one is restored.

The original interior going back in. Any tips on removing the black staining on the vinyl?

I have tried Simple Green, Upholstery cleaner, and bathroom scum cleaner lol.

Looks fantastic. What did you end up using on the upholstery stains?
