Rob Yes that looks like a barrel of snakes. And even worse it's wrong on all levels I sure don't envy your challenge ahead.

Dennis you're having your challenges to.

I'm currently trying to get the front Swaybar to fit it seems impossible with what I'm trying to do
it needs to be lowered with big and littles. .

Hey Guys
Ya well Finally got the Lill Mustang of Calvin's running and out the door (Progress!)

Still working on the house need to finish that up also just got my xmass present to myself in yay! its a Meco N midget tourch and a Weldit gasaver model 101 I ordered the complete tip assortment last nite cant wait to try it out.

I been doing more gas welding than with the Tig this is so light extremely light lots smaller & lighter than my Victor or my Tig I am able to control my heat better with the gas as well plus its a little slower more my speed slower is better with sheet metal in my opinion especially when your trying to learn and the lighter weight is a big bonus for my wrist! cant wait to order the light weight hoses came with a good set but there are some super light weight one to I wanna try.

How bad was that old original fender?
Maybe you can fix it? you'd be blown away what you can do straining old metal.
Just me but I would use the re-pop to fix the original not the other way around.

Im gonna give up finding a fender for the Plymouth and use what I have and live with what I did straitening out that old one was looking at it yesterday I did a pretty good job of straining it out after Calvin had jumped up and down on it.

Dennis, and that torch setup sounds really great. I've been told by many professional body man that that is the way to go. I've tried with a small set I have but neverbeen able to master it. I tend to worp the crap out of everything I touch.

Rob, it might be a great suggestion to start over and use the re-pop to fix the original fender of course I really don't know because I'm not there.

We're still going crazy trying to figure out the swaybar. Every time we seem to think we have an answer We get interference from the steering, the airbag or the a-arm. We are marking it up using plywood and PVC pipe and a couple of Hime joints. I'm ordering some dog bones that are adjustable from the new Corvettes that mightget us into the ballpark. I'm just sick and tired of trying to figure this out :realmad: :realmad: :realmad:

I Don't envy you having to engineer stuff its fun for a while but when you run into snags as it sounds like you are it gets frustrating, to think of 10 different ways to do the same job.
First couple are easy its when those first ones fail or wont work as planned when things get tough.

Take a day off and really look at that old fender look at it from I have to replace look to a I Have to save look point of view, view the new one as parts for the original. Remember that fiberglass fillers are your friend to cover welds and body work.
Better to run with a repaired original with some filler than run an after market made to fit just my opinion.

I never got the hang of gas welding either, and I've never tried TIG so I'm content to stick with what I know, for better or worse, worse no doubt :allgood:

That whole front end geometry sounds like a nightmare Doug, I feel your pain :splat:

Glad to hear you got Calvin's hot rod stang done and gone Dennis :goodjob:

The fender decision wasn't made easily but after staring at the old one for a very long time, then putting it away for a while, then revisiting the idea, I gave up on fixing it. It's a 50 year old fender that was born and raised up here in the rain. Quite a bit of rust and the most butt ugly patch repair done to it previously. I would have to replace a ton of it and the repop fender body is actually very good, however I'm quite sure it isn't perfect so using it to patch large pieces would be a far cry from using part of an original to patch another original. In the end I'm pretty sure I'll have it looking as good as new and it will be totally rust free. Also it fits far better to the dynacorn hood I'm using while the original fits far better to the original hood, go figure. We'll see, just need to graft in that small piece by the windshield and I'll be in good shape, I hope :knockout:

Thanks guys. I was surprised at how well it fit together, I expected way more grief.

It's looking pretty good now, I put the valance and stone guard on and naturally the fender shape at the front bottom where it attaches to the valance is way off. I put a few relief cuts in the fender flange so I can pull it out and work the shape right. It's getting close :knockout:


Are you guys getting anywhere on your rides?

I got the bottom of the fender lining up with the valance reasonably well, a bunch of relief cuts and a wedge welded in the bottom to bring that part in close enough. I need to final finish the fender bottom once it's off.

Now onto the next stupid thing, just when I thought I was out of the woods, I put the headlight bezels on and the fender ridge is a good 1/4" higher than it should be :realmad:

I'm going to try and cut it and shape it down, if that fails I guess it will be another oem patch grafted onto the repop :knockout: :knockout:
