Yeah I know it makes perfect sense, driven plenty of column shifts, I know where the gears are. This is the norm, reverse is where 1st would be if it was on the floor, then down for 1st, up and over for 2nd, etc. The thing is it's in gear no matter where you are, should be in neutral in the center area just like a floor shift, but it's in gear there too :splat: One thing particularly odd is it goes from reverse into 1st real quick, well before the half way point where neutral should be? It's in the air with the wheels off so we can see exactly what's happening while shifting. At no point is it ever in neutral when you let the clutch out :knockout:

On a turbo 350 auto each click is a gear of sorts, P, R, N, D, 2, 1. This has the same sort of linkage but it seems to be R, 1, 2, 3, where the heck is neutral? There's a lot of linkages down there but you need to know where the neutral setting is on the trans before you start adjusting willy nilly.

Its got two input levers right? with two rods hooked up? some have three.

Sounds like the levers have been removed and could be upside down or reversed if one is longer than other on the transmission itself. If its been resealed or rebuilt this could have happened. or levers could have been or where taken off for cleaning and painting and then reversed?

Imagine my surprise on a test drive with a 74 455 4speed car basket case car I rebuilt actually had a revers shift pattern? first time I drove it lol all installed upside down and backwards! it was on that way I just installed it.

Left in first gear boy its hi gear? what a dog! shifted into second holly crap! I'm into steering wheel sky hi rpm! back to the shop!

I have the feeling they're real finicky and come out of adjustment quite easily. We're going to pull the linkage off the trans and try and find it by hand from the bottom so we at least know where we're attempting to get to. Obviously it's there somewhere, really weird that it goes from reverse to first on a hair line.

Wonder who assembled the trans you got? :knockout: :knockout:

I got three TA's in that deal and two 4 speeds trans missions and only one 4 speed car.
The one had the levers already bolted on it that's the one I installed turned out they were upside down. I fixed two of the cars from the three and sold off the extra parts this was years ago! wished I had kept the extra transmission now as I need one for the 71 TA I am gonna build after current projects are finished up.

I picked up half a Ton of GlassBlast today pretty sure that should be enough to strip the red back off the engine compartment. hoping to leave most of the Epoxy and just remove the red. If so I will just apply another coat of Epoxy and go to regular Primer ASAP this time. Sand it out & then spray whole car and put the silly thing back together.

That must make a heck of a mess, anytime I even do some spot blasting I have media everywhere. You were going to strip the red off the outside too weren't you or do I remember that wrong?

I have the hood fairly well aligned but not perfect. I'm going to put the stock hood on to see if it's the dynacorn shelby hood that's a bit off. It's flush front and back but high in the middle area :knockout:

My son just picked up a cool project, 1922? topless Ford T pickup. Complete less motor I think and in really nice shape :goodjob:

Ya Im Blasting out doors Need to build a Little shed to Blast in The Glass is completely reusable. Its a waste to do it out doors with out a way to collect it to reuse it.
But at $11.50 a 50lb bag Im not gonna cry to much Thinking just a few bags should do what I need.

Got Calvins engine in last night not much left to do stab the distributor and put the hood on, have to figure out the Vibration it had yet think its coming from a Bent axle. As soon as the engine is done gonna start looking into that by Putting a dial indicator on the axles.

Sounds like your son found a fun project 22 is way cool. does he have any plans for it yet?

Weird how you got your hood front and rear down but its up in the middle?
I like those brackets you got for the hood but they seam like a real pain to get aligned properly..

You been driving the Dune buggy much this year?

I think the initial plan is to build it as a rat rod and enjoy it for a bit, then take it apart and do some nice body and paint. The box will be shortened and the tub moved back to make room for the 396 that's been sitting around waiting for something like this. Shortened 9" in the rear and probobaly a mustang ll type front end. All the parts are there and it's solid so a great foundation to start.

Yeah the hood is weird for sure, the hinges are a pain to work with but now that they're pretty well set it was hopefully worth it.

Don't have the buggy on the road yet, still on the cold and wet side here, another month and I'll insure it.

I have a friend storing his 67 GTX at my place and he's been fighting a small vibration too, turned out his driveshaft was bent so he got a new one, that solved 90% of the problem but not all of it. Stll trying to figure out the last bit

It has the hood, grill, etc., just not on it at the moment

Cool Ford! :goodjob:

Got Cal's engine fired up ran for about 15 min total long enough to pump up lifters and warm up engine a few times re adjusted rockers three times no fun no help took intake off has three collapsed lifters.
He has another new set going in today these were brand new Melling roller lifters that failed from Autozone. Only thing I can figure is his spring pressure may be a little excessive at 160-180 lbs closed and 460-480lbs open. 512-512 lift 284 int 294 exh duration its lopes a little at an idle....

Oh well all we can do is try another cheap set of rollers.

Vibration : We had the drive shaft checked and balanced already that wasn't it, checked and made sure we had correct fly wheel checked and adjusted pinion angle as well helped some but still no joy have changed transmission cross member now as well as put in new solid transmission mount but havn't driven it since we put in trans x-member & mount yet. pretty sure we have a bent axle tho but wont know for sure till I put a dial indicator on it will check that before hitting the road again.

Should be a ball to drive after I finish exorcizing all the Gremlins.

Ya got to hate new parts that are defective, which is becoming far too common these days. I put in 6 voltage regulators in my RAM before I got one that worked :realmad:

Hope the next set of lifters work out better.
