Rob I'll take some pictures of the tools I use starting with the wire scrub brush I use with Phosphoric acid. You have to strip the paint etc. off first. pictures to follow  soon :whoops:

There are many opinions and forms of metal prep (phosphoric acid) but so far I do the following.
Strip or grind paint off
Spray with Phosphoric Acid
Scrub all with wire brush especially rusty areas.
Wash off and dry.
Spray with light coat acid again and let dry.
It’s protected from rust if you keep it dry till you want to work on it.

OK now before priming I get as much of the coating off as I can, using the following:

The small wire brushes on the long extensions work best on a drill. With out the extension I use them in the die grinder.

The fine wire brush is drill only, low RPMs.

Bigger areas and requiring more power. Careful here it can destroy your metal and PROTECT YOUR EYES AND SKIN WHEN DOING ANY of THIS STUFF. The little wires break off and embed themselves in your skin USE FACE MASK AND GOGGLES!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the detailed explanation Doug, that's awesome! :goodjob:

Nice looking rad, love the look of the aluminum rads

I'm still picking through all the crap in my driveway from the neighbour and my own garage clean up. Starting to see light at the end of the tunnel :goodjob:

Rob, felt I had to go detailed because that is what it takes to explain. Oh BTW there is some controversy that I bet you will find on this website on how or not to use phosphoric acid AKA Metal Prep. so I just gave you my 2 pence worth   :worthy: ....Bet you will be glad to get all that stuff organized and back to the Stang :goodjob:

Dennis, you are working way to much :knockout: :knockout: :knockout:

The more detailed the explanation the better Doug! Half the time I read some kind of write up I don't really understand what they're getting at

I'm quite familiar with those little wires flying everywhere, especially lately, I think they used to make them better years back.

Getting everyone to agree on anything is pretty tough so I'm sure there's plenty of opinions on the acid thing.

Hope you're getting back to normal work hours Dennis :drink:

Oh ya he through in three days of school to in that time off just to break things up for me.
Today's the last day of that! Was out last nite working on rebuilding the Starter for my Truck 93 F250 4x4 7.3 Diesel Brushes where shot as I thought the replacements Pig tails don't look right, Replacement Brushes look right don't know how or what I'm gonna do about the Pig tails yet though. 2 of The originals are riveted to a Plate and 2 others are mounted solid into the Armature.
Looks like I am gonna have to splice them some how.
