That's a whole lot of fitting you have on your hands Dennis, no wonder you're sick of it :knockout: :knockout: :knockout:

Once you get some of the uglier jobs done hopefully things pick up, I was stuck in the trunk and wheel wells for a long time and wasn't very happy about it :splat:

No wonder I can't get any fasteners, you've cornered the market on them  I have clecos but what are the ones with wingnuts and the clamp type you have in the 5th pic? I could use a pile of those

No idea what that piece you showed is for?

I did a rust repair on my 90 Ram last week, cut out some fender and welded up some molding holes, paint wasn't a perfect match but who cares, the beast has about 350,000 miles. Need to do the other side but the weather has turned and I had to do it outside as my shop is full of Stang.

Hi Rob
Cleico's = Draw type = wing nuts allows very tight fit ups, Alligator spring type hold with out drilling hole, Spring type just that a spring type. They are also made with different sizes all these are copper or #30 next ones up are gold they take like a 21 drill bit I believe? their are also smaller as well. I have a pretty good assortment enough to get into trouble. Baking plate is dead soft Copper real easy to bend super soft yet very firm excellent backing plate to weld on spreads heat out preaty good not exactly perfect but I am glad I welded with it instead of with out it on those quarter panels.

Just my opinion but I dont think it should have been welded at all should have glued it all back together would have been better cleaner less stress on the metal less damage and warp age.

You're making some nice progress now Dennis! You'll be done with the back half before you know it :goodjob:

I need to look for some of those aligator type clamps, beats using a boat load of vice grips.

I have the brakes apart on one side and the axle pulled. I need to press on a new bearing, I think I have an excuse to buy me a hydraulic press. I could just pound it on with a pipe and a bfh but where's the fun in that

I'm not a big fan of that method either, nothing like having the right tool for the job. I was hoping I could find a good heavy duty used press but there's not a lot of that stuff floating around up here. I got a new 20 ton gem, made in China, so I figure it must be a good one  :rotfl: :rotfl:

Anyway it worked like a champ pressing on the bearing and retainer so I can't complain, you couldn't buy the steel to build one yourself for the cost.

Isnt that SAD!!!!! Its cheaper to buy Junk made in China than it is to build one your self!
The thing is the one you would build your self would be worth more than the Chinese junk? better steel!
Just kinda makes ya sick they can import our used steel melt it down re pour it into something new repackage it and ship it back to us ALL cheaper than we could have mfg it for in the first place.???????

Well god dam there ya go Lets Fire ALL USA based company CEOs and replace them with Chinese business leaders.
Perhaps are economy's would rebound then ? better than them buying every thing first?

I have a Very Old elcheapo 20 ton I bought 20+ years ago

Very sad indeed. The price of steel is insane, I paid $25 for a 28" long 1.5 inch ID steel tube to use to press the bearing on :splat: The steel alone to build the press would have been double the price I paid for the complete unit. It truly sucks.

So between their elcheapo steel and dirt cheap labour how do you compete? I would love to have found some giant 100 ton beast from the 50's and would have been willing to pay a fair bit more for it but they're nowhere to be found and having something like that shipped if you found one out of town would be nuts.
