Tim I always go by what the Book says OR better if my machinist wont go for better I find a new machinist my .002 was a number thrown out there from memory for 350-400 small block Chevy's on the center main checked with only number 1 and 5 mains torqued if its less great but after moving a crank from machine and transport home most are knocked out more than that. I have seen Brand new cranks that were Junk Heck most guys dont even check the run out they figure its been turned down its good to go I check every thing Im supposed too and I do, if its wrong it goes back to machine shop plain and simple. better to fix it while its apart than in the car Dennis B.

Dennis,
Actually a stock small block Chevy (by the way I love that engine) requires .003 or less by your checking method. Most all I have built is high performance or towing. That's when it needs to be less preferably. I have checked them with each cap off individually and as the manual calls for with only the 2 end caps torqued. The rotax is more than I would have guessed being aviation.....What kind of RPM/HP does the little engine make? I have worked on everything from tillers to diesels. My favorite is the small block. Had a rod knocking on grandads tiller one season (mid 80's) just for grins and giggles I filed the rod cap. It worked! Don't try this at home...HA! Didn't cost a dime just an hour maybe 90 min in time. I changed the engine out 2 or 3 seasons later....LOL!! Ended up dreaming about crankshafts all night
I'm putting this to rest until I talk to the builder, he can make the call, he's doing the final adjustments and the break in on the motor so he's still on the hook Rob

It is his call but to prevent future bad dreams have him check the run out. This is starting to effect my sleep also
it needs to be lowered with big and littles. .

I still have some work to do,but I took a picture of the front of my car the other day. Rolled it up onto the concrete...sucks having to do work on the bottom when you laying on gravel
Ignore the mess! Oh yeah, and my sander/polisher/buffer from TCP global FINALLY arrived with the compounds and 1K&2K paper....but they are back ordered on the wet sanding blocks. I'm not waiting,I'll find something else to use. Last time I had to wait on something,it took 2 months before it got back in stock, was ridiculous. And am I the only one who thinks their shipping is to high? $50 shipping for a polisher,1 gallon of compound, and sandpaper. Order was placed on the 1st...just now got it My programs never have bugs, they just develop new features!
