Fixed a carbon fiber hood using epoxy and fiberglass cloth. Seemed sturdier than fiberglass.

Epoxy doesn't sand worth a hoot. I'm obviously not very experienced with autobody processes. Read on here that I should use polyester primer.....not sure if G2 is one.

What about a sandable filler that will adhere well to the epoxy?

Thanks guys,

George

I'd probably opt for a sandable epoxy primer, it should sand fine and it tolerates being on parts that flex like that hood.

Sandable epoxy primer does not build very well, but is your best option on a flexible part such as a composite hood. Urethane 2k high build is a good option, unfortunately it does not flex well at all, and if the part does need to flex, it will crack. If you choose to use a plastic filler such as bondo, ensure you purchase a marine grade product. These are safe for use on composite, while the automotive stuff designed to go over metal is a bad idea.

Do not use polyester over an epoxy resin, these are not compatible. You can put epoxy over polyester, but not the other way around, as it will not properly adhere.
