Greetings, I bought a new FRP spoiler that says it already has black primer on it. Would you trust the primer? or would you sand and reprime?

Easy test....just take some lacquer thinner and swipe it. If you pull the "primer" back up in the rag/towel get rid of it. If your rag is clean it is probably a black sandable gel coat sprayed into the mold first when laying up the lamination. The use of black makes it "self guide coating" so you can easily see the hips/dips and mold imperfections to work out. It would then "powder" up as you sand. You would not want to get rid of a sandable gel coat as that gel coat increases surface strength and keeps any further fiberglass cloth or mat from "printing" up through your paint.
