Rustproofing the inside of air compressor tank...possible?

Hi Guys,
I emptied the standing water the other day, and removed the end plug from my IR 30gal. horizontal compressor, to let it dry out.
I noticed it's all rusty inside.
Is it possible to coat the INSIDE of the compressor tank?
Would the material eventually clog things up if it made its way into the hoses?
Maybe just coating an 8" stripe on the bottom where the standing water collects?
Something like this flexible coating....

(I only use this comp for tires and air nozzle)
Good idea?, Bad idea?
