My current pump seems to be on the way out, it is leaking a ton of oil into the air, and it was never all that powerful to begin with (14CFM @90PSI). I have a true 5HP motor drawing 22AMPS, so I have a little room to get a decent pump.

I narrowed down my selections to a Laplante Pump, 3 cylinder single stage that I can get to around 19-20CFM@90PSI with my motor at about 1000rpm.

Or a 2 Stage Pump capable of 17CFM @ 175PSI.

Most of the tasks I need the pump for keep me around 100PSI, I do quite a bit of spraying and sand blasting. It seems like the single stage would be more efficient around the psi I need, but I keep wondering if the 2 stage will work less therefore create less heat and moisture in the tank.

Also would the 2 stage generate more CFM at 90PSI, or it doesn't scale that way because of it being less efficient at lower PSI? Also my tank (60gal.) has a max rating of 150PSI so the 175PSI of the 2 stage would never be utilized.

Thanks for the help!

You might want to check these guys. http://www.eatoncompressor.com/page/page/518643.htm
They proved a pretty good breakdown on their pump specs.
