Whats everyones thoughts on using a gas/diesel air compressor for painting? Seems you can get a pretty good powered one for less than electrical, and I rarely use mine, would these work for painting?

Yes, as long as it can supply enough air. You need to keep it far (far) away from your project, though - the exhaust can harm you and your painting surfaces very easily.

Thanks Chris. I did think about the exhaust fumes, also do you think it would produce less water than an electrical pump?

no, it won't matter if the pump head is being driven by an electric motor or an engine - the amount of water in your air supply is not related to that.
