My go to primer gun is an Astro Pnuematic EVO-4018.
1.8 tip Iwata knock-off gun.
Keep meaning to get a 2.0 tip for polyester primers but just haven't done it yet.

So, if I'm looking to get a primer gun, should I go with a 2.0 to be safe?

Check the tech sheet for the build primer you use the most and buy accordingly. A 1.8 tip will handle most anything and I have even sprayed poly primer through it.

Polyester primers are not for every job and used mainly on older vehicles that have a ton of little issues with the metal. Its like spray on body filler.

I have my eye on a Devillbiss FLG678...it comes with a 1.8 and a 2.2 tip. Can grab it off ebay for just over $150. I've not used one, been using the cheapo HF purple junker...does the job, but just wanting something a tick nicer.
