Lacquer paint gun type ?????

Getting ready to do an old school candy apple red lacquer paint job.I don't know weather to use my 40 yr old develbiss mbc thatback in the day I used it all the time with lacquer or try a hi end hvlp gun that has a 1.4 tip? Any suggestions. Thanks,tom

Is there a reason you are going with Lacquer? Unless the car is a Concours Restoration I would think opting for the ease, coverage and durability of the modern paints would be better.

Use a newer gun that will spray better and put more paint on the car.
The gun doesn't know the difference, it just goes by viscosity.
So thin accordingly.

P.S. The car in my avatar is old lacquer that I did some lacquer
repairs on. It still looks great but if it were me, I'd use urethane.
