i just graduated from college and got 4 ase's and have the oppurtunity to get I-car points cheap I was wondering if shops even care about i-car points and if smaller shops even look at ase's and if so will they help me start farther up in a shop or if ill go in washing cars like any one else.

The answer is YES! I-CAR especially, is very important in the body shop industry because it's constantly keeping the body shops & insurance companies updated on the newest trends & repairs that have to be done to cars. Our industry is now CONSTANTLY changing every year on the way cars are repaired .
ASE is important as well but not looked at in our part of automotive repair as I-CAR is! If I had the oportunity to get I-CAR for cheap I would jump on all I could get. Even with being an apprentice a body shop owner or shop foreman will take a closer look at you than a guy who doesn't have anything! Hope this helps! David Alger

In the body shop side of things I-CAR is more important than ASE due to it's teaching you along with giving you a certification.
ASE simply is just you taking a test that shows you know what that certification is about. Back when I took my ASE painting test it talked about laquer. We haven't used laquer on cars in years & really don't fool with it anymore in the collision side of Auto body. Back the last time I took it their test were a little outdated. On behalf of ASE though I haven't taken one in about 10 years because I don't need it anymore with what I do. So I'm not sure how they are now. I-CAR is the only thing I need & take along with other courses. David Alger

how can someone like an apprentice painter get started with I-car Certification? I went to tech school and have 3 years of shop experience mainly prep and paint.
