probably close enough that you would never tell with a candy on top,

i think k100 "super jet black" is valspars blackest black but i am not sure
are you using straight K73 ? valspars toners require either a 333 or 999 binder to make it basecoat. you should not be using K73 out of the can.

would you like me to spray them all and let you know ?

Thanks for the Help Dave, but no you don't need to spray them out. I just want something with depth and I figured that the most depth in a black would be acheieve with just straight black. A jobber here suggested I just try K73 toner with the binder as thats as dark as you can get and it's. So I guess it's safe to say that K73 with binder is blacker than the K100"super jet black?

I just found with using the black metallic even the tuxedo black by ford that I didn't get the contracts between the two tone (candy apple red and black) that I wanted. When i see pictures of of a Candy apple red next to a black, the contrast usually looks amazing like in the picture I posted of the motorcycle fender.

yes sir i did some research and testing the K73 is blacker than the K100

if your jobber will mix for you that is perfect. the code you would want is K090 that will give them the formula for the K73 with binder

Well I sprayed a sample with the Black toner K090 and it looks much better next to the Candy apple KBC11. The KBC11 candy apple even looks better over the deeper black.

So I will probably be painting the whole truck with black first.. then install the doors and make sure my separation tape line is all lined up , then mask off the top and paint the candy.

With Valspar base how long can I wait before I had to spray the candy? I will have to handle the fresh paint after the flash time with gloves in order to line up the paint line on the doors with the two tone. I had a few issues not waiting long enough before with the tape line. I am using a medium reducer.

Can I have a few hours before I spray the candy over the black without any problems? I know the tech sheet says up to 24 hours to clear, and 10-15 mins flash time but that's about all it says

I don't like going more than a few hours on my base. If you are not using a mid coat like DBC500 your tape will most likely leave some ugly marks on your base. But the good news is you won't see them when you clear. But it would be a good idea to use some DBC500 or equivalent before taping. Depending on temp in your paint area I would wait 30 minutes to a hour before taping.

So you're going to paint a two tone and go into the jambs ? Pulling doors off after outside striping is done ?

Also you are using house of Kolor clear ? Other clears do fall off house of Kolor that's a fact. Do use house of Kolor clear then you can sand that down and go over with any clear you like.

Ya the plan is to paint the bottom of the truck in the Candy apple red, and the top half just below the windows the black. The process was gonna be paint the cab first with the two tone. and pain the doors black off the truck. When the doors are flashed enough and given a little bit of time to dry, put the doors on to line up the pin stripe for the two tone, mask the doors, take them off and pain the candy.

What is DBC500? Is it like an intercoat clear?

How often do you handle painted areas without the clear on yet, say for example a door lol.

I was planning on using the Valspar Clear actually as I was told it should work great over the house of Kolors as Valspar owns HOK now. I was told that by many people actually. What's the difference between the clears?

Ok thanks for the tip, I guess I will wait a little long before I put the tape on and mask. I was just going by what the Tech sheet was saying.
