I get great results from this...
80 grit for stripping paint
400 before primer
600 wet over primer for blocking and smoothing
600 wet between coats (if they are dry) or over old paint to re-clear.

I have been stripping by hand ,with a block . I am having trouble with my 80 grit paper clogging. I tried 36 and it is just as bad. I am dry sanding. The problem is that there is an clear rattle can on the surface and it balls up in the paper. I can only sand for about 5 min until my paper is useless.
her name is "celeste". A 70 opelgt. It is a rust free california gt that I painted myself. I am here to learn how to redo it correctly. Its a 10 footer now, but with your help, she will be something! Thanks. Great site.

Well 1:You wanna invest in a DA sander.
And 2:What is the brand of the sand paper you are using, some sand papers out there suck |
|
Open coat 40 grit, preferably wih a rotary sander, and use a cleaning stick. If you still have trouble bake that **** first, put it in the sun or get a lot of heat on it and it'll sand nicer.

What grit would you say one of those RapidStrip wheels is equivalent to? They look like wirewheels with dull-tipped nails instead of wires sticking out of them. Is this as safe to use on bare metal as the package claims?

Not sure what the equivalent is. What's safe even mean though? 220 will cut through a lot of metal real fast with the right tool. I use 40 grit rotary 8", and it'll remove metal faster than an angle grinder with a ferrous cutting disc.

Hey
I just bought a 1992 Honda Civic Hatchback VX. The owner before did a horrible paint job it had like 3 random color on it...So i want to start over, what kind of sandpaper should i get to remove the paint (think to bare metal?) |
|
80 grit on a DA(dual action)
wear a respirator asvapors and particles will be airbourne |
|
What about the psi.
Do i have to worry about the heat warp? And what kind of DA should i get? Is their a step to remove paint from the car? I really want more info before i start doing it... |
