I've tried and failed twice painting my car. i did SS urethane first 2x around. I found a local jobber who will shoot it for me. Going BC/CC this time around. Ive got about 3.5 quarts of color and 3.5 quarts of clear left. Just the exterior no jambs or inside of the car. Is this enough to shoot a mid sized car like a 70s dart? Want to be sure I have enough materials for him.

If it mixes 1:1 then yes it should be enough.

What went wrong with your two attempts with Single Stage?

It mixes 4:1 Well I found Niagra Falls and ive never been to New York. It ran really badly and I felt the best way to fix was to sand it back down and retry. Same thing ive never painted a car before and I tried. Figure its worth a few bills to have someone do it right.

Did you sand back to primer or is the single stage still there?

Not all the way back to primer. Just back to 600 with no flaws.

if I was going to paint it you would be a little lite on clear. you have enough to go around the car twice. but with the single stage already on the car you probably don't want to put any more mils on the car then you have to. did you strip this car down to bare metal
in the immortal words of Frank Sinatra "That's Life"

Mixing 4:1 you are not going to have enough clear as Jamon stated especially if you plan to cut and buff.
The color will be close depending on coverage.
To be "safe" you should plan to purchase some more of each. How much Single Stage did it take to paint the car? Use that amount to figure what you will need in base and clear.

Not all the way down to bare metal but darn close. I had a gallon of single stage and I was able to paint this car twice with 1 gallon. 3 good coats each time. If I remember right i used about 16oz of each base and clear to do underside of hood, all my trim parts. The jambs and trunk and such were done in SS and I will leave those. So what im painting is 2 fenders, hood, roof, doors, quarters and trunk lid top just the exterior of them.
