I'm working on smoothing out a lower quarter after removing some rust. After body putty was added I knocked it down with 80 grit then 180, I've added several layers of of primer and have been sanding with 320. I got about 4 spots left each smaller than a nickel that left a very shallow crater. Should I just build it up and knock it down till smooth then move up to 4-600 grit?
Thanks!! Can post pics of needed.
Smoothing primer/body filler.

I would put some putty in the low spots, block em flat, then re prime the whole area and give it another block.

Would glazing putty be good for this?

Yes, but be sure to use one that takes a hardener.
The ones you use right out of the tube are lacquer based and contiune to shrink long after they're applied. JC.

I ended up knocking the whole thing down and starting again. I had too many layers of primer/filler and some were not dry. I think k I was in too much of a rush and didn't let stuff dry/mix correctly. So I'm back to one layer of Bondo im smoothing out, I put one coat of primer on to see the imperfections and I'll be knocking it all back down till smooth , then I'll add filler for any lows or air bubbles.

if you have some powder guide coat, you can use that on your filler to help find low spots, saves mixing up primer and cleaning out your gun, waiting for the primer to cure, etc!!

I am an advocate of block sanding most of the filler and primer off the panel with coarse grit paper until the panel is straight. I use black epoxy as a foundation and can see when the 2k primer is gone and only the low spots are filled. Then shoot 2 coats of build primer, guide coat, etc.

Ok, finally some progress. I'm still new to this so in figuring it out as I go. I beleive my issue was I wasn't working the sand paper enough. Tonight I worked the whole area with 180 grit and really spent some time on it and 90% of the issues were gone with that. I'm gonna move up from there. Tonight was a " hey, I can do this" kinda night. Gonna need better lighting soon.
