So in the UK people call clear coat: lacquer or clear lacquer.

In the US people mean acrylic lacquer or cellulose lacquer when they talk about lacquer.

Nobody in the UK would use old style lacquer in a bodyshop, just a few people in their garage or doing some sort of restoration. I spray in my garage but always with 2k products because I have a Hobbyair.

If someone is talking about 12 coats of lacquer they must be talking about cellulose or acrylic lacquer.

Max Meyer 0200 is a European PPG product HS clear. I used the Max Meyer MS clear years ago and used just 3 coats unbuffed but it flowed like glass back then and looks just as good five years later on my brother's car.
