Hello Guys, I am new to this forum.... i have been browsing for past few years, and finally decided to make a profile because I realy need your help. I am from Toronto, Canada and recently i bought this car from an auction and noticed that is frame damage in the rear end. Can't seem to figure out if it is actually bent. the trunk closes but i have to push it down with more force. And there is misalignment on top of the trunk.
I have not taken into a shop yet... will need to be towed.

That's gonna need a pull or two to fix that for sure but it is repairable.

Looks like a civic. First you can replace the rear rebar. It doesnt look bent bad if it is bent. If you dont have a frame machine you can align everything with a porta power and you should be good.

A Porta-Power will work if you are on an extreme budget.
I would talk to a few body shops with a frame rack or a "line shop" that works with frame alignments. Make phone calls to bunch of local shops in your area. A few quick pulls shouldn't cost more than $200 - 400 and will put you back into factory specs. Its the serious frame damage that can cost more money. Having the new parts handy will help with fitment if they are available to the line shop when the work is performed. |

I would say the end panel is more of an issue. the rebar can be unbolted and a new one bolted on but the alignment of the trunk suggests that the end panel is shoved in.

Looks like you can push/pull rear panel out a bit and be fine there. Those cracks in deck lid are not good though. I'd source a new one. Plus impact bar, absorber, and cover.
If it ain't BROKE fix it till it is!!

first thing I would do is get some new trunk lid hinges. then see if you can get the lid to fit correct then go from there.

Thanks for replies guys.
I don't visually see any damage to the trunk or the hinges. Can the hinges still be damaged? If I try to twist the trunk lid and help it align, will that be good enough. I am sourcing out a new re-bar and bumper. Thanks |
You dont always have to replace the hinges even if they are bent. I have had good luck straightening them by removing the trunk lid. Putting a jack stand in the floor pan of the car and using a pipe over the hinge to pull it down into position. And like you said the trunk will give you some play by twisting it. You can grind the bolt holes larger if you need to as a last case scenario.

In my opinion, the trunk lid is what's bent. It was hit high on the bumper. The trunk is level to the 1/4 panels except the last bit and its in to the tail lights at the back. Rear end panel could also be in a bit.
I'm in ajax and work in Toronto. |
