difference between wet sanding and dry sanding aside from minimizing dust from sanded parts, anyone? do they have direct effect on the outcome of the work done?

When using finer grit papers they tend to clog fairly quickly. Wet sanding allows the paper to cut better longer.

Can these methods can be used interchangeably? Say, I can wet/dry sand primer for topcoat prep without difference in the outcome on the part to be painted.

Thanks!

Generally coarse grits (80-320) are dry sanding and 400 and up wet sanding.
Can you do it differently? Yes, but like with most things that have been done for years techniques are perfected by trail and error. My thinking is why try and reinvent the wheel? People that do this type of work nearly every day of their lives probably have a good idea as to the best methods and materials.
