Each panel had between 2.5 and 3 mils of material. This included the high build primer (2 coats) and the base (3 coats. first was light and the other 2 full).

Hi
Strait from question one you said you did 2-3 wet coats with a 5-10 minute flash time.
What Wet coats mean to some and what it means to others may be different ?

DoRIght. Sorry if I mispoke Still Learning.

BadSix, I can get the CrossFire # later today. It is the line VOC compliant for CA but there may be more than one.

Avanti wrote: I followed the tech sheet for the base of 2-3 wet coats but no drop coat and 5 to 10 minute flash time (BTW the base was Martin Seynour Crossfire not ProBase as mentioned earlier). I waited the 30 minutes before applying the first coat of clear and had no reaction.

that's ok, I do see that the Crossfire HS-231 requires an activator should yours require one. your jobber says they don't sell much b/c makes me wonder, I would think b/c would be there prime color product. I don't really see an application problem here, I've poured the clear on some projects before with no problems. so has every custom painter out there so I just can't see that being the problem. i'm thinking a product problem, the base separated from the primer I've NEVER seen that before. something is wrong with the base, your application may have been to heavy, probably not, or mixed wrong by you or the jobber.

Badsix thanks. If I'm correct the HS231 3.5 VOC is the only Crossfire base legal in CA?

I'm spraying the panels again tomorrow. I reviewed the data sheet and like you said, it calls for hardener. I asked the jobber about hardener for the base earlier and he said it doesn't use it. I'm beginning to think he knows less about paint than me And what I know you could "put in a thimble". I've wasted a lot of time and energy on this but I'll just be gracious and tell the guy what I need/want per the data sheet.

yep, that data sheet is important follow it. if you do more paint work in the future always get the data sheet and study it carefully. and be aware that some people behind the paint counter don't always know what they are talking about.
