Doright are you also referring to ********** epoxy? It will be 4 days before I can get to the clear coat so I will scuff with maroon pad. I'll let ya know how it turns out.

Dennis, I have shot a lot of epoxy and never did base coat over epoxy that quickly. Epoxy takes a long time to dry and I usually wait at least overnight. Have you actually shot base that quickly? And the base held out, it didn't end up being pulled into the epoxy (looking mottled, blotchy, etc.) ? Also he is talking about clearing directly over epoxy. Any time up until the re-coat window would be fine to shoot clear directly over epoxy. |

I use 3 different epoxies and each have different guidelines. Pretty simple, follow the TDS for dry times as it pertains to topcoating procedures. You don't shoot topcoats on wet epoxy. Flash time between coats of epoxy, and dry time before topcoating epoxy can begin are two different things.

you guys made some good point on flash times and dry times to recoat. I think you would be in trouble wet on wet with epoxy. I also have a question for the O/P, instead of clear coating why not use a singe stage black urethane. i'm not sure how the black epoxy is going to look with the clear, it might not be a good true black.

Bad six - that was my original plan to use SS black but figured it would be easier to just clear coat instead, think I will try both. Thanks.

A chassis black would also look good. It's not quite as glossy as clearcoat
would be, and looks more like the OEM finish. "If you can't move it, paint it." - U.S. Army

I said let it flash that means follow your tech sheet
how else would you know what your flash time was? ALL paints are different! What ScottB said is very good advise and very True. You guys are taking My Wet on Wet out of the context Epoxy Takes a Long time to cure Wet to me is out of flash time to me that is still Wet and Yes I have top coated that soon not saying its right not saying its acceptable practice either! as I said in that Post I would sand /scuff it. (followed by Primer then BC/CC) But I have shot Black ********** epoxy let it flash off then shot SS Black over that then let it set up & sprayed Clear came out great all in period of couple of hours. there is no way the Epoxy had cured before top coating. again Im not saying its correct not saying its acceptable. but the paint is still on my Harley with no chipping or Dieback. also no I have never cleared Epoxy Epoxy doesn't have any UV protection so why? thats like Clearing Grey Primmer. why? Call ********** Talk to Barry about Wet on Wet and any other questions you may have about HIS Epoxy. He will Return ALL CALLS PROMPTLY if he doesn't answer phone. 404.307.9740 Even late at night but don't do that to him unless its a true emergency. He is a really Great guy and will tell you how it is, He will also tell you what can be done and what cant be done if you ask him nice. Not all base coats are the same some link with Epoxy better than others again ASK Barry he is a lot more knowledgeable about his products and what products work well with his products and which don't he knows more than any one hear he should he makes the stuff. As I said In my first post I would scuff its just not worth risking an adhesion issue for a little bit of sanding paint costs too much. Dennis B.
