Hello all, Posting this question here in hopes of getting some opinions from others that may have went this direction or had thought about it.

I'm about to take on a complete restoration of a 69 Z/28. About 97% of the car is rust free , major rust that is. It's mainly surface rust and has been sheltered most of it's life. The only real rust issues are on each sides of the rear quarter panels just behind the wheels.

I plan to keep this car with no intent to sell and I hope not to have any problems with rust later in the future.

Chemical dipping (Not an acid bath) vs media blasting.

Media blasting
I know could warp the steel if not properly done and it simply will not reach and clean all the hidden places such as inside the rockers and frame rails.

Chemical dipping will dissolve rust in all those hidden areas mentioned above and give me clean metal thru-out with any chance of further metal damage (warping).

I could then spray epoxy primer with some sort of a 360 deg. cavity wand tip and tube.

I'm about 99.5% leaning on the chem dip as it seems to make the most since. This car will retain all of it's metal, so removing all the surface rust from those hard/hidden areas will be difficult (my thought for the dipping as better). But because this is my first restore I wanted to get others advise if there is any.

Thanks again

nice project, I think I would go for the dip process if you can afford it. you can also blast it, I've did them both ways. with the sand blasting you defiantly want to have some one that for sure knows what he is doing. then there's the clean up you can never get rid of the sand. I've had bodies on a rotisserie and when you move them sand will come form some place. you can vacuum and air blow until you die and not get all out. if you have a metal dipper in your area talk to them about your project

If you decide to do the chem dip just be aware that some cars have sealer in areas that require metal removal to replace the sealer, because it was put in during the process of welding the body together at the factory.

You might want to check with the guys at a camaro forum to see if that is the case with your car.

Badsix, There's actually a place just a few hours north of me. I'm in Ft Lauderdale and they've been doing this chemical bathing since the early 70's. Since I plan to keep this car I don't want to cut any corners. I've started checking into both methods and for a few hundred more I'd rather have peace of mind then horror start attaching from those hidden areas a few years down the road. I've never done either but my thinking was the same. Since this car had been been sitting since the late 70's and we have our fair share of sand here I thought I'd blow some air into those hard to get to areas if blasted. And boy your right.. just as I thought all was vacuum up I'd blast once more and it looked as if I was back at the beach again..lol
