sanding door edges

anyone have any tips for sanding door edges without hitting bare metal? i am not having much luck no matter how careful i am. im blocking with 400 dry.

I sand door edges with 400 wet the majority of the time, seldom do I sand through to bare metal. To sand the actual edge & the inner seam, take your paper wet without a block and sand the door edge with the paper in your palm. Just watch what you're doing and if you see the clear break, you'll know when to stop.

This can also be a spray technique problem sometimes. I've watched shooters actually start to arc the gun off the surface at the end of strokes. Bottom line... film build isn't what it should be near edges so yeah, you can bust through. Check your technique when near edges, and as said, obviously be careful when sanding. It's a rare time that I would ever cut through an edge.
