As this is my first time can I dry the tank straight after wetsanding and clean then polish it

yes, wet sand then clean it off how ever, wash with soap and water or wipe it off clean with a clean rag or paper towels. then use the pad and some compound, test it on a small area first to see how fast its going to cut. pad speed, pressure and compound are going to make a difference in the cut and gloss.

Wet sanded with 2000 grit then polished some of it came up good think I may of went to much in 3 small spots and burnt into paint how can this be sorted and parts that didn't shine do I wet sand and Polish again or just keep polishing. 1 picture attached not great image sorry

clean then lightly sand it or use a red or gray scotch bright pad. then put about 6 more wet coats of clear on 10 -15 min between coats. let it dry for a day, maybe out in the sun then do your buffing as before.

Can I use air orbital sander with polishing sponge as the drill was 2 fast and parts of the sponge came off I'm happy with progress so far not looking for 100% perfect job

yep speed is important. you might try it see if you can lock out the orbit, some you can and some you cant.

Tried it again turned out worse touched up with aerosol much better so did the whole thing in aerosols and turned out great will post pics when I get a chance cheers for advice
