do any of you have experience with matrix.
How does it hold up...ie the ms 42 clear
and is there an advantage to activating the base coat
or just spraying it reduced.
Im kinda looking for a comparison to sherwin williams 7000 system.
This will be a complete on a 70 chevelle..
if it was your car...would you use matrix.

The benefit of activating base coat is adhesion. As far as matrix goes it sprays same as other basecoat but the color match is not too good. But haven't used it in years.

Totally agree Dave, I like the basecoat but it always seems to have too much metallic in the basecoat. I've heard good things about the Ms42, I use the cheap 78 and it serves my purpose.

Use to use the ms42 years ago fine it to be a little on the hard side ( easy to chip ), but
ok for every day collision work. But if nice car go with top line clear.

Thanks for the input guys.
as far as adhesion i thought it was mechanical at the 500 grit wet stage
and thats as fine as i should go or loose mechanical grip.
Is activating the base to stop metalics from moving around when clear is sprayed.
Also at $260 for a gallon kit for the ms42. what is a top of the line clear.

Whatever clear fits the job and budget.

They're all relatively the same. It all comes down to marketing. solids content. And UV protection.

There are clears with very high DOI distinctness of image but have little UV protection
VS something with decent DOI with high UV for things like watercraft. So it depends on the clear that fits that job.
