Hello, this is my first post. I'm committed to painting my first vehicle. I've painted parts of a vehicle in the past, but nothing from start to finish. My current project is a 57 Chevy 2DR post that was media blasted. I believe they used etching primer when it was bare metal. This was about 2 years ago so I can not really remember. Can I scuff and spray epoxy over the etching primer? I have looked on the spec sheet of the epoxy primer but did not see anything mentioned. I've been told I could, but also that it is not recommended.

generally the two are not compatible

^^^ he's right! Are you sure its etch prime, most blasters I know of use an epoxy if they prime. etch prime by itself is not a very good protectant if left on for long periods. it really should be primed with a 2 part or ? primer shortly after application.

Bad six is right too. Take a rag with some lacquer thinner on it and let it sit there for a few minutes. If the coating gets soft strip that crap off and go to epoxy. If it does not get soft sand with 150-220 and prime with epoxy or 2k

Thanks for the responses. It melted away with the lacquer. I sanded it down and sprayed epoxy. I guess ill have to do the entire car.

Yep, that is if you don't want serious problems later on.
