Anyone have a recommendation on what a decent brand of W&G remover would be? So I'm gonna strip this panel to bare metal, weld in patch, grind welds smooth, hammer and dolly area flat, add filler and sand smooth, then spray some DTM Tamco primer. One quesiton I have....So you have bare metal with filler on it, you are going to spray wax and grease remover on the panel before you spray the DTM primer, is it ok to get W&G remover on the filler, and wipe across the filler? Or will the filler have some sort of reaction to the W&G remover?

Personally, I've never used wax and grease remover on bare metal or filler. If I were concerned with possible contamination I might used it on a panel prior to doing any work. I know some used it so they can see the metalwork reflection, but as far as a pre wash prior to priming, no. So long as the filler work and metal are recently sanded, and there's been no unusual circumstances (someone detailing a car nearby), you should be good to go. If something were a concern, on bare metal, I would just use thinner and stay away from the filler. If something has contaminated the fill, no amount of wiping is going to remove it. Grind & refill.

I use **********'s solvent based W&G remover.
Wear a good set of gloves (don't want finger prints) put some W&G in a spray bottle, then spray it on and wipe it off with a clean towel before it dries. The towel will show you how much gunk is coming off that metal. 1968 Coronet R/T

never ever get any liquid on new filler.
That includes wax & grease remover. Filler is like a sponge and soaks things up to where it's hard to get it dried out. It can come back later to haunt you once painted. JC.
(It's not custom painting-it's custom sanding) |
