Folks,
Have been painting for a while and have painted a few cars, painted many many guitars.
Until recently (through this forum) I found out you do not have to body fill on metal but can in fact fill over an epoxy primer - but not etch primer
Having only learnt this new fact, if I am do body filling with a filler, what is the minimum grit size one recommends to scuff for adhesion (220 grit ??) or swill a scratch pad (3m scotchbrite) suffice. Can you body fill over top coats, clear etc if the surfaced is scuffed well enough.
Thanks for any info
Steve

PS the advice given for painting over an e coat was great.

80-120 grit for filler.

80 grit on a DA sander over bare metal
If you spray epoxy primer first to cover bare metal you do not need to sand the epoxy if you stay within the "re-coat" window. Different brands have different lengths of time for re-coating their epoxy primers so you need to read your tech sheet for your particular product. 1968 Coronet R/T
