Hi,

I have done something apparently very stupid.

My car was hit by some kind of egg bomb, that hooligans threw at my car recently when out driving. I got most of it off, but there were some persistent sticky patches. Without thinking I used a rather abrasive sponge to get them off - but now those areas are a streaky light grey colour (compared to the black the car door should be). Running my finger over them the surface feels the same texture as the rest of the door (and rubbing with a cloth has zero effect, as if there is no dirt to remove) - so I wonder if I have rubbed the top of the paint away which has caused this fade?

Or is it some kind of chemical reaction, changing the colour, that can be fixed with the right substance being rubbed on?

Or other ideas and solutions?

Thanks!

Mark

Sounds like you scuffed up the clear coat with the sponge.
Pics would help.
If it feels the same as the rest of the car just faded, you can just sand that area with 2000-3000 grit and polish by hand to bring the shine back.
