Any one try to clearcoat bare metal? I have a project on the back burner that would be a good candidate for the bare metal look. I live in a rain forest so I can't just leave it bare or it will rust into the ground in no time. Just wondering how well the adhesion would work without primer?

I was thinking of stripping the paint, the clear is already delaminating and the roof has a part that's past the factory primer and starting to rust. It's an 89 short box chevy that I've had forever, never been hit, so it would be straight enough for the metal look. I'd sand it down to 400 - 600 grit and clear it with a flatener in the clear for a dull to satin like finish.

I would be interested in knowing what materials are required for the grinded metal look. I am assuming a clear epoxy primer?

Well that sounds like it would work. What do you consider tons of clear, 4 coats? Do you have any pics of anything you've done this way?
