Hi Everyone,
I'm getting ready to paint and am trying to decide whether to add activator to the base coat or not. Your advice on when to add it and when not to is appreciated.
What advantage is there to adding activator to base coat?

The biggest advantage is found when making repairs, like say you sand through the clear during the cut and buff stage and need to make that ugly spot disappear.

Like 68' said, it does help to keep the base from wanting to
wrinkle at the edges of spot repairs. and it's just more durable. But, you can't store and reuse once you add activator. So that's the only negative. JC.
(It's not custom painting-it's custom sanding) |

the biggest reason is adhesion, a lot of the reason it was developed was clear popping off edges of panels and around door handles after curing.
as far as when should and when you shouldnt use it ? most manufactures now it is NOT a option anymore. it is now pretty standard and expected to be used in all basecoat. i dont like it personally and hardly use it. i think it nibs and tacks like crap Experienced Trained Certified

When its not stated on the Tech sheet how much clear activator should be used?
I have been told to add a cap full to every mixed quart when using Base coats that just gets reduced and its not on the Tech sheet to do it???? Dennis B.
