Sorry about the reference of e-coating on the plastic piece.
It was a black thin coating on it and wasn't sure what it was. Was thinking on plastic probably not the correct term to use.
It took me a good hour and a half to sand the entire coating off.
I thought about getting another grill but they are kind of pricey and I am just doing this on the site.. no shop.
I have run across this a few times and it gets me everytime. I wasn't aware of the waterborn primer/sealer.. But will keep that in mind next time around.
I do like that I have this grill shell sanded down all the way, cause now I know it won't give me any issues down the road.

Thanks for the info guys. When it happens I swear I am NEVER GOING TO PAINT AGAIN!
Got it done! Just took a lot of sanding. DA and some 220 worked well. |
