Ok so a few people have asked 'have you any tips on caulking guns or any other tools to make life easy when applying sealer'.

Here's a guide to get the best results from applying sealer.

Step 1

Ensure the area to be sealed is properly cleaned and free from any dust. Use a good quality panel wipe or degreaser as some may call it.

Step 2

when the area is nice and clean you can apply the sealer. Before this step, choose your caulking gun wisely! You can use a $10 caulking gun but its going to take a long time and your hand will be hurting when you've finished! Haha! You can use an air powered sealer gun. These can be bought from as little as $50 $60 and will do the job nicely. Of course there are more expencive sealer guns out there which last a lot longer.

Step 3

practice the bead of sealer on a scrap panel/area this is so you can adjust the speed or size of the nozzle applying the sealer.

Step 4

apply the sealer in a smooth even motion making sure not to keep stopping during application.

Step 5

choose your finish. Either leave the bead of sealer as it is or use your finger to smooth it out. (Spray degreaser lightly over the sealer before smoothing with finger)

And thats it! For further information check out the video below!

Above write up is of my own experience and works for me. There are other ways of doing it and that is fine.

if your applying sealer to an area visible to the outside of the car a lot of 60s and 70s and older have exposed seams. I like to tape along each side of the seam then squeegee it off, this way you don't have seam sealer all over the place. the tape leaves a slight edge but that can be sanded or will filled in with primer.

Ah yes! Taping the edges how could i forget! I do that most of the time just to keep the area kleen too. Nothing annoying than having to sand or clean of around the sealer when finished
