I will be painting a panel on a motorcycle tank with 2K single stage. When is the best time to removing the masking to get the cleanest edge. I will be using fine line masking tape. Thank you for your help.

PainterDave, Thank you for your reply. You state "depends on what your taping off". As mentioned, it's a panel, painted with 2K single stage on a motorcycle tank. Is there anything I should add to that?

if youre doing stripes i like to peel when soft but dry if that makes sense to you.

hard to explain but another thing i like to do is mask everything off leaving about 1/4 in away from where i want my line to be, then using the fine line i can peel just that one piece of fine line at my tape edge instead of fighting to get it out from under tape, then the next day youre free to unmask the rest

let me know if that dont make sense

Yep, that's the way I was taught to tape as well. Get the "coarse" tape patterns filled out so you can fineline tape the edges. I usually pull that fineline tape again when it's soft within a few hours of the shoot. Another thing I like to do is keep a fresh razor blade or X-acto knife in one hand as I pull, just never know.....you can get the odd hang up here or there.
