Thickness of standard auto sheet steel?

So I was in a discussion the other day about the thickness of automotive body panels these days. I was under the impression that they were 18 gauge for the most part. Someone else concurred and said that all sheet is presently high strength 22 or 24 gauge. That seems **** thin to me... Anyone know?

I know older cars were often thicker. and I know it depends on the manufacturer and area in the car. I've seen some that was scary thin... and an old VW type 3 I had was super thick

No doubt it was thicker 20 years ago. No problem hefting yourself up and sitting on the hood/fender of a mid 80's G-Body car - there are some cars that ya can't even lean against these days!
