I'll be buying something used, will have to upgrade to a better tip if it does not come with a smaller type tip, still looking. The price of new is a bit ridiculous so I will have to hold out for used, thanks.

Mine is a little bigger than both of those Chevman posted.

Chevman
Man those are soooo cool I want one!
I am getting better with my tig But I am have more fun with my Gas, Its helping to improve my Tig technique I think.

The Gas is more controllable and the Tig more surgical in my opinion that's the best explanation I can give it.

What is your take on tig welding body panels? Found a 3 in 1 (plasma cutter, MMA and tig welder) just an idea I'm throwing around.

Tig is great I love my Tig a Lot like gas, inexpensive to use as well after initial buy of every thing, Sounds like you are looking at a Power supply welder set up? Im not sure ? what is MMA? I also don't have a Plasma cutter YET!
I Wish I knew more of what I was getting into when I bought mine, at the Time I had Tig on the brain and bought the first machine I came across that was a good deal It was a nice clean Miller that worked and was complete,With a nice Mig set up as well as the Tig stuff couple nice grounds and some other odds and ends no extra cups or other consumables or a Stick stinger :( I would like to have that.... any way. Would have been nice to get a Bottle with it too that was expensive, I also had to go out and buy a bunch of Cups & assortment of Collete's & Tungsten for the tig handle.

Hind sight is always 20/20 and Now I wished I had done more research on what I was getting into My Machine is great and all and its hard to go wrong with a Miller And it does do the job but its like using a Howitzer for Plinking its way more machine than I need there are machines out there for a little more money that do a heck of a lot more IF you know what Your looking at and what to look for such as Pulse My next machine will be a dedicated Tig machine one of the newer suitcase types smaller with more control dam price tag though is STEEEEEP!
Will the Smaller machine with more control help me lay down nicer beads? Probably not I have come to the conclusion that I'm just not that good of a welder myself I can do it don't get me wrong im an ok welder but I still struggle were a real welder a guy who does it every day just fly's.

Practice Practice practice that is what welding is all about

By the way I saw a Smith Acetylene Jewelers gas welders on ebay cheap like 130 no bottles or regulators, there was a complete set up for like 550 I don't know if they are any good or if they would work though.
Keep an eye out for a Miller EconoTig that's the one I wanted to get before I bought mine

MMA is manual metal arc welding, the best I can tell it is a fancy word for stick welding. I saw a 3 in 1 plasma cutter, MMA and tig and figured I can use the plasma cutter instead of the acey/oxy torch, and the stick for welding heavy gauge metal and the tig for the lighter metal such as the body panels. It is a thought just keeping my options open. Lot of the Ebay items are not open to Canadian customers, and when then are, the price is considerably higher after shipping and customs charges. I am forced to shop locally for used tools and such. Torch set with bottles complete, is around 500.00 to 550.00, sometimes you get lucky and find one used for around 300.00 but very rare.

I was out there working on my 70 Pontiac project im putting in a Trunk floor pan and fixing the lower quarters NOT replacing I'm using all three processes on it Tig Gas and Mig but not Arc (stick) you'd be amazed how much you end up using gas its just one of the tools you need to do the work, I was using it today for shrinking a panel, The trunk Classic industries sells for 70-74 doesn't fit in a 70 it turns out and has to be modified to work the lower quarter patch panels they sell need to be modified to work as well.
Most all the repair panels you'll buy on the market don't work as sold and need to be made to work but no one tells guys that when they start out in this hobby they just run around on the internet **** that the panel are junk and don't fit, Not many are willing to show any one how to do it either, That's how people make money you know? I get it, I don't blame any one for that.

Im using a Victor torch set up a size or two bigger than the one Chevman posted with a double zero tip it gets the job done, but it does get heavy.
You should check out some of the metal working sights to start learning how to shrink and stretch metal so you can make repair patches, You will be amazed at just how much you can do with just a hammer.
They have a whole bunch more correct info on fixing panels welding panels Im a Hack these guys rock http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/index.php
Im not sure witch one Chevman hangs out on?

So what is this Hot Rod your wanting to fix up lets see it????

Well that opens another option, I look for a 3 in 1 machine if this one does not work out. The price is right but not sure if it comes complete or if it works.

I was on ebay yesterday I saw an Miller econo tig for less than $600 thats a nice machine and a better price that thing sold for $1800 and up new.

They had a few other ones that were multipurpose machines that were cheap as well.
A good Multi purpose machine with all the do dads is gonna be in the $1500 & UP range you know that rite?
Be careful you can buy more machine than you need.
I would be happy with a smaller machines myself

Also don't forget about using today's new adhesives just my opinion but there's nothing wrong with the stuff when its used correctly its every bit as good as welding without the distortion from the heat.

Lets see this project car

That's more machine than I need, I was looking at cheaper machines new, used ones are hard to come by around my area. I know that they are more than likely Chinese crap, but some people are happy with theirs, and for the amount it will be used, I will not need anything more. I have been reading about the new adhesives for body panels, but I am old school and rather weld them up.
