mig brazing was probably recommended to you for 2 reasons.

1. it uses less heat and therefore keeps warping and distortion to a minimum

2. it grinds and finishes very easily and will keep the thinning of the steel to a minimum

that being said is mig brazing better then regular mig welding? probably not any better for your situation. the reason this welding method is used is because in the collision repair industry where high strength steels are used common mig welding will ruin the properties of the steel where as a lower temperature weld such as that with mig brazing will help keep the steel from being destroyed by heat.

it also seems that body filler doesn't like to adhere to the copper as much as a regular steel weld, so that is something to consider.
