I like your idea and have been watching ebay sales for tooling ended up buying

http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/t ... ey=2622553

http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/t ... ecfer=9160

Got both for less than $25 including shipping they will make nice addition to the arsenal cant wait to try them out tooling faces look brand new never been used.

I am curious how big of a Hole you can punch though in mild steal ? without breaking your hand or the tool? with your hole punch and how fast it is? I know its not as fast as a Paper hole punch but ....?

I am thinking about going to sheet metal shop and asking them to just punch me out a 100 of each 1/4 1/2 and 9/16 5/8 and calling it good if they have a powered punch it shouldn't be too much trouble and shouldn't cost too much I would think and I still will get what I need.

I have the XX punch kit for 5/32-17/32 holes and the #5 jr punch kit for 3/32-9/32 holes, and seldom use the jr. They are rated at 1.2 tons and it takes a little more than that (1.4 tons) to punch a 1/2 inch hole in 20ga steel--which is what I work on-- and I wouldn't even attempt to do any more than 17/32 with it. The smaller holes are as quick as 1-2-3, but it takes both hands and a struggle to do the 17/32 :knockout:

I saw a Rotary hand punch and think that would be a good one to get on a stand and all big lever but at a $1000 used I will be waiting, I will have get one of the smaller ones though

Wow! How many holes do you have to do? If I had it to do over, I wouldn't pay more this time for hole punch that is easier, its just not worth it for the number of times I need it.

I went back and looked at it, it was 500 not a grand sorry
And it was for larger holes cool tool and no I don't need that many but it did larger holes in the 1 inch neighbor hood and a little larger that 's why I was looking at it.

Still I think I can find a sheet metal shop in town that can punch a whole mess of em for me cheaper than I can justify buying one.

Right now tho I have a Lot of holes I drilled out with a Spot weld cutter I would like to repair
The spot welder guy went crazy in several places stacking spot welds one over the top side by side trying to get the stack of dimes effect I think with a spot welder. I know I am going to have to cut whole area out and just weld in a patch to save the panel. but in other areas your idea would work great.
