Fellas -

Working on my first paint job. First time with bodywork, too. Car is a 1972 Alfa Romeo GT. I stripped the paint to the metal with razor blades and a heat gun and it looks like I had new quarter panels installed at some point. They were attached with brazing, not welding.

Curious to hear what you would do here. I'm inclined to leave as-is where the metal/brazing is solid, but there are a few holes that will need patches. I'm thinking this was the result of flux contaminating the area, since it's right on the seam.

The area pictured is the passenger side. Driver's side looks pretty much the same. You can also see the rusty area at the base of the C-pillar.

And a picture of the car -

Hard to say without having it cleaned up a bit better I don't see anything that scares me though. DA with 80 grit to clean the area up some more.

Hard to tell what they used? I just started playing with Silicon bronze.
That's the correct thing to use if you wanna braze the panels as Paint will stick to it.
You can TIG with it with pure Argon, You can use it in a Mig again with Argon I don't think I would use a Steel mix with it in a mig. and of course you can Gas Braze with it with Flux.

I haven't found my Happy place with the stuff yet Perhaps one of the other guys will say something about it?

I recently stripped and painted a 65 Mustang, which I discovered had a full quarter panel replaced a long time ago (panel had the factory date stamp for 1965, plus it was leaded at the roof seam, so I assume the wreck happened right after it was bought). I had been painted a couple of times before. When I stripped it, I noticed it was brazed on using a torch. It was very solid and there were no paint adhesion issues. I left it alone.
